- Minuet op.21 for small orchestra is Elgar’s arrangement of his own 1897 piano piece of the same name.1
- Elgar conducted Granville Bantock’s orchestra in the premiere of the orchestral version (New Brighton, 1899).2
- Elgar dedicated this piece to Paul Kilburn, son of his friend Nicholas Kilburn. Nicholas Kilburn was an iron merchant and a fine amateur conductor who championed Elgar’s works. Elgar was so grateful to Nicholas Kilburn that he called him “The Saint” and dedicated The Music Makers (1912) to him.3
