- Elgar composed Mina for small orchestra in 1932. It premiered at the EMI recording studio on Feb. 8, 29134 in a recording session.1
- Mina was Elgar’s last completed work.2
- Mina was the name of Elgar’s Cairn terrier. He had several dogs during the last fourteen years of his life, after his wife’s death (she hadn’t been a dog person). The dogs’ names were Mina, Marco and Meg.3
- Elgar loved his dogs. On his 70th birthday, after conducting a BBC concert, he closed the concert by saying through the microphone, “Good night everybody. Good night, Marco.”4
