- Nepenthe and the Muse is a short piece for piano written in 1922, shortly after spending a year studying with composer Arthur Foote. The piece is dedicated to Foote.
- *Nepenthe was a drug used in Ancient Greek literature and mythology (mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey, for example) for banishing grief or trouble from a person’s mind.1
