- While the date that Crusell composed Clarinet Concerto No. 1 is unknown, we do know that he had the work published in late 1811.
- Crusell dedicated the piece to “Mons le Comte Gustave de Trolle-Bonde.”
- The music of the concerto is “Mozartian” in style and indicative of the bridge between Classical and Romantic impulses in the early 19th century.
- Crusell was perhaps the most renowned clarinet virtuoso of his time and consequently wrote several works showcasing his mastery of the instrument, including his E-flat clarinet concerto.1
