- Written in 1899, Solemn Prelude is an orchestral piece commissioned for Britain’s Three Choirs Festival (fun fact: this festival still takes place today).
- Following its premiere at the festival, Solemn Prelude was never published and seemed to disappear… until 2021. The festival’s chief executive tracked down the original score and arranged a second performance at the same festival.1
- The 2025 recording by SOMM Recordings, performed by the Ulster Orchestra and conducted by Charles Peebles, is the first recording of Solemn Prelude.
