- Coleridge-Taylor’s Piano Quintet in g minor is a 4-movement work for piano and string quartet. It premiered in Croydon (a town just south of London) in 1893, when the composer was just 18 years old and still a student at the Royal College of Music.
- Coleridge-Taylor reused two of themes from his piano quintet in later works:
- The second subject of the first movement later appears in African Dances, Op. 58, No. 3
- The trio from the third (or “Scherzo”) movement reappears in his Four Characteristic Waltzes, Op. 22, No. 31
