Waltz in a minor, Op. 34, No. 2

Composer: CHOPIN, Frédéric
  • Chopin composed this waltz in the early 1830s (probably around 1834), and it was first published in 1838.1
  • Each of the three waltzes in Chopin’s Op. 34 is dedicated to a different woman.2 He dedicated this one to the Baroness G. d’Ivry, one of his many aristocratic pupils.3
  • Fun fact: Hungarian pianist Stephen Heller once told Chopin that this waltz was his favorite of all Chopin’s waltzes. Chopin was so pleased with this remark that he took Heller out to lunch at the Café Riche.4
