Rondo à la Krakowiak, Op. 14

Composer: CHOPIN, Frédéric
  • Written in 1828, Rondo à la Krakowiak is one of Chopin’s rare pieces for piano AND orchestra. Like his Variations on Mozart’s “La ci darem la mano,” Rondo à la Krakowiak was written under the guidance of Chopin’s teacher, Józef Elsner.1
  • In this piece, the pianist is front and center as the dominant voice, while the orchestra provides a supporting role.
  • *A Krakowiak is a fast Polish folk dance characterized by syncopated rhythms originating from the region around Kraków.2
