- Two Polonaises written in 1835 and published in 1836 (the first of Chopin’s Polonaises to be published):
- Allegro appassionato (C-sharp minor)
- Maestoso (E-flat minor)
- Dedicated to Austrian composer and friend Joseph Dessauer1
- Both works of Op. 26 are melancholy. Perhaps Chopin was longing to return to his homeland after the past few years of political exile.2
- Fun fact – Chopin’s earliest known work was a Polonaise, written at the age of seven.3
