- Opus 74 is a collection of 17 (or 19) “Polish Songs” for voice and piano composed spontaneously between 1829-1847. The collection was published posthumously in the 1850s.

- All of these poets were contemporary Poles, and Chopin knew most of them personally.
- These songs would not have been performed in public concerts but rather in intimate salon gatherings among family and friends.2
