- Composed in 1830 in Vienna, Chopin’s Nocturne No. 20 in c-sharp minor, Lento con gran espressione wouldn’t be published until 1875.
- Chopin dedicated the nocturne to his sister, Ludwika Jędrzejewiczowa.1
- In his dedication, Chopin wrote, “For my sister Ludwika to practice before she takes on my second Concerto.”
- Listen for – Nocturne No. 20 contains a quote from another one of Chopin’s works, which was something he rarely did. The middle section of the nocturne contains several quotes from his Piano Concerto No. 2 in f minor AND from one of his Polish Songs, Op. 74 – “Życzenie (A maiden’s wish).”2
