  • Chaminade was commissioned to compose this work as a 1902 examination piece (or morceau de concours) for Paris Conservatory flute students.1
  • The work is dedicated to Paul Taffanel, influential professor of flute at the Paris Conservatory.2
  • The work was originally scored for flute and piano. Chaminade arranged it for flute and orchestra for a performance in London by her friend Marguerite de Forest Anderson.3
