Suite for String Orchestra

  • Frank Bridge composed this suite over Christmas of 1909.1 The score is dated “December 1909 – January 1910.”2
  • Bridge was a violist and a professional string quartet player; Phillip Brookes, in his preface to this work for Faber, notes the influence of Bridge’s string quartet expertise in this piece.3
  • This work gained popularity after Bridge conducted it at a Proms concert on October 8, 1920.4
