8 Symphonys in 8 Parts, Op. 2

  • Boyce’s 8 Symphonys in 8 Parts, Op. 2, were published in 1760. It is a collection of overtures, mostly from previous works by Boyce.
  • Unlike Classical symphonies (which were becoming popular at the time), these were old-fashioned Baroque works in the style of Italian sinfonia (usually 3 part, fast – slow – fast form) or French overtures (slow, dotted rhythm opening followed by a fugal section).1
