Prélude in f minor (from Trois Improvisations)

Composer: BOULANGER, Nadia
  • Nadia Boulanger wrote Trois Improvisations (Three Improvisations) for organ in 1911:
    1. Prélude in f minor
    2. Petit Canon in a minor
    3. Improvisation in e-flat minor1
  • Boulanger dedicated Trois Improvisations to Catholic priest and organist Joseph Joubert. Joubert edited the anthology of published works, “Contemporary Organ Masters,” which included these three organ pieces by Boulanger.
  • Boulanger transcribed “Petit Canon” and “Improvisation” for piano and cello and included them in her 1914 work, Trois Pièces (not to be confused with Trois Pièces pour piano, which was also published in 1914).2
