In Memoriam (1952)

Composer: BLOCH, Ernest
  • Bloch composed this work while he was living on the Oregon Coast.
  • The work is dedicated to Bloch’s friend, pianist Ada Clement (1878-1952), one of the founders of the San Francisco Conservatory.
  • The piece incorporates a bit of music that Bloch composed as a teaching example for one of the counterpoint courses he taught; Ada Clement enjoyed this teaching example when she attended his course, so Bloch incorporated it into In Memoriam.1
