- Hugo Becker was a cellist, educator, and composer. He came from a musical family: his father was violinist Jean Becker, and both his brother and sister also played string instruments. The foursome toured together as a string quartet.
- As an educator, Becker taught cello first at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt, then at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. He became a leader in advancing cello technique and was known for his precision and dexterity.1
