- Beach composed this chamber piece in 1904.1 It was originally scored for violin, organ and cello, and later arranged for violin and piano.2
- The religious undertones of this piece are displayed not only in the title, but also in the original instrumentation with organ, and in the tempo direction: Adagio con elevazione.3
