- Completed in 1938, Bax’s Violin Concerto was written for renowned violinist, Jascha Heifetz. Unfortunately, Heifetz was reputedly unimpressed by the score and didn’t find it virtuosic enough. The piece finally premiered in 1943 performed by violinist Eda Kersey.
- This concerto is noticeably lighter, more romantic, and perhaps more palatable than the “Sturm und Drang” (“storm and stress”) quality of Bax’s symphonies.1
