- Bach’s Cantata BWV 6 Bleib bei uns, den es will Abend werden (“Stay with us, for the evening is approaching”) was composed in 1725 for the day after Easter.1
- This piece is based on the cantata’s 3rd movement, in the which chorale melody is sung by soprano solo over an obbligato part for violoncello piccolo (a string instrument with a range between viola and cello).2
- Bach also arranged this movement for organ as one of the Schübler Chorales3 (a set of 6 chorale preludes by Bach based on movements from his cantatas, published c. 1748).4
- This arrangement features a solo trumpet in place of the soprano part. It was arranged by Jean-François Paillard, conductor of this recording. 5
