Main page for Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos
- Bach composed this concerto by 1721, when it was included in the set of Six Concerts avec plusieurs Instruments which he sent to the Margrave of Brandenburg.1
- Structure: this concerto has four movements, but the final movement (Menuetto) is separated into seven sections, including several minuets, trios, and a polonaise.2
- A Sinfonia by Bach, which uses the same material as this concerto’s first movement, is cataloged as BWV 1046a. This Sinfonia also appears in Bach’s Cantata BWV 52, Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht (Lying world, I do not trust you).3
