Polonaise in E-flat Major

  • Dvořák composed this orchestral polonaise in December 1879.1
  • This piece was intended to be danced. Dvořák composed it to be the opening number for a ball held by Prague’s Academic Reading Union2 on Jan. 6, 1880. The 36th Infantry Regiment orchestra performed it at that occasion.3
