- This piece is an arrangement of Donizetti’s Sonata for Oboe and Piano, A 504. It was arranged for oboe and strings by this recording’s oboe soloist, Lajos Lencsés.1
- It was composed sometime between 1810-1848, and was dedicated to Donizetti’s friend, Severino Degli Antoni.2
- The original piece was unpublished during Donizetti’s lifetime. Eventually C.F. Peters published it in 1966. 3
- Donizetti entitled the piece not “sonata,” but “suonata,” perhaps to highlight the term’s connection to the Italian word, “suonare,” “to sound.”4
