La tempête (“The Tempest”), Op. 18

  • In 1888, Chausson was asked to score the incidental music for a translation of Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest, for a marionette theater in Paris. The composer wrote fives pieces of music for the occasion – three were songs, and the other two (listed below) were later arranged for orchestra:
    1. Air de danse
    2. Danse rustique1
