- This short character piece for piano is one of Hensel’s last works. She composed it on October 13, 1846. Hensel died on May 14, 1847.
- In 1846, Hensel had finally decided to publish her compositions (under her own name), despite the disapproval of her late father and her brother Felix. 1846 saw an explosion of creativity for Hensel; she wrote nearly 50 compositions that year.
- However, Hensel’s publications began with earlier works. This Andante was not published until 1996, in a Kassel/Furore multivolume collection of piano music by Hensel, edited by Annagret Huber.1
