BEACH, Priscilla Alden

1902-1970 

• Beach grew up in Rome, New York, the daughter of the owner of a lumber company. Her family was descended from Mayflower passengers John and Priscilla Alden.¹
• Beach studied at the Eastman School of Music and the Julliard School.²
• Beach also used the professional pseudonym Alden Beach.³
• Beach composed during her education, then pivoted to a science and research career. She was a laboaratory technician at Johns Hopkins, and directed Special Research at Shelton College in New Jersey.⁴
  • In the 1940s, Beach also co-authored several books on cats with radio evangelist John Hosford Hickey.
