Calme sans lenteur

Composer: TAILLEFERRE, Germaine
  • This single movement for piano trio was originally the slow movement of Tailleferre’s Piano Trio (1917). When she revised the work in 1977-1978, Tailleferre removed this movement from the trio and added two shorter movements in its place.1
    • The revised version of the Tailleferre’s Piano Trio was published in 1980.2
    • In Tailleferre’s Oxford Music Online article, Robert Orledge points to the ease with which Tailleferre returned to her 1917 trio in 1977 as an example of the stylistic continuity of her career.3
  • The title is simply a performance direction: calm, without slowness.
