- This is one of several works that Weber composed for clarinetist Heinrich Baermann in Munich in 1811.1 Weber completed this concertino on April 2, 1811.2
- Baermann was a clarinet virtuoso who was employed by the royal court of Munich. Baermann premiered this concerto on April 5, 1811, at the Court Theater in Munich. The performance was so successful that the court subsequently commissioned Weber to compose two full-length concertos, including Op. 73.3
- Baermann was a strong supporter of Weber’s music. Weber later wrote his Clarinet Quintet for Baermann as well.4
- This work was first published in 1813 in Leipzig.5
