- Travel Royal is a short documentary film directed by documentarist Peter Bradford and commissioned by the British Overseas Airways Corporation, released in 1952.
- The film documented various royal residences and other scenes shot in Britain and was meant to encourage tourism. You can see clips from the film (without music) on YouTube.
- The music is packed with national folk tunes, including Oranges and Lemons, John Peel, Greensleeves, and an unnamed song by Henry VIII.
- The film is only 21 minutes long, so this suite extracted from Carwithen’s film score gives us a healthy chunk of her music from the movie.
- In the late 1940s, a program was set up by the J. Arthur Rank production company to recruit and train film composers. In 1947, Carwithen was the first Royal Academy of Music student recruited to the program.
- Carwithen composed music for over thirty films throughout her life.1
