Suffolk Suite

Composer: CARWITHEN, Doreen
  • Carwithen composed this suite in 1964 for the students of Framlington College, a boys’ school in Sussex. The school’s music master had asked Carwithen for a piece for the students to play at the royal opening of their new school concert hall.1
  • Carwithen’s Suffolk Suite uses themes from her 1954 score to the short travelogue film, East Anglian Holiday.2 This suite is one of several concert pieces in which Carwithen made use of themes from her film scores.3
