Lute Concerto in D Major, RV 93

Composer: VIVALDI, Antonio
  • This concerto is scored for lute, two violins, and continuo. It is sometimes referred to as a “lute concerto” and sometimes as a “chamber concerto.”
  • Vivaldi wrote this concerto around 1730-31. Between 1729-1731, Vivaldi and his father were on a tour of central Europe, during which they visited Vienna (where Vivaldi’s opera Argippo was performed in 1730). They may also have visited Prague, because during this period Vivaldi wrote this and two other concertos featuring lute for a Count Johann Joseph von Wrtby, who had a home in Prague. All three concertos were written on paper from central Europe, rather than paper made in Italy.1
