- Les Paladins premiered on February 12, 1760 at the Paris Opéra.2
- This opera was the least successful of Rameau’s career, partly because it contained a mixture of comedy and tragedy, a combination that French audiences didn’t care for.3
- Story: a comedy of disguises and mistaken identity, in which a young paladin (knight-errant) Atis and his lover Argie scheme to escape Argie’s guardian so they can marry. Also there’s a magical fairy involved.4
