- Ponce composed his most famous work, the song “Estrellita” (“Little Star”), in 1912, as part of his 2 Cantiones mexicanas (Two Mexican Songs).
- Ponce wrote the texts for both songs in this set, and it was first published in Mexico City in 1914.1
