- Mouret’s sinfonies were not Classical symphonies; at the time the term “symphony” simply referred any work for instruments. However, because Mouret’s “sinfonies” specified which instrument was to play which part (rare for the time), they did help French music move toward a symphony orchestra tradition.1
- This track is actually a selection of movements from Mouret’s Suites de simphonies nos. 1 and 2. The movements were originally written for orchestra; in this recording they are arranged for three trumpets, timpani and organ.2
