Scherzo in d minor

Composer: LALO, Édouard
  • This scherzo began life as a movement from Lalo’s Piano Trio no.3 in a minor, op.26 (1880).1
  • Lalo extracted the scherzo and orchestrated it to form this single movement piece in 1884.2
    • Fun (?) fact: Part of the reason Lalo had trouble achieving commercial success is that he preferred writing instrumental music, notably chamber music like this piano trio, when what was really popular in 19th C. France was opera.3
