Peer Gynt

Composer: GRIEG, Edvard
  • In 1874-75 Grieg composed incidental musice1 to Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt (1867).2
  • It was Ibsen himself who invited Grieg to compose the incidental music for Peer Gynt.3
  • Grieg created two orchestral suites from his Peer Gynt music (Op. 46 and Op. 55) in 1874-5.4
  • Story: Peer Gynt recounts the international wanderings of its irresponsible, aimless but loveable eponymous hero.5
