Nonet in f minor, Op. 2

Composer: COLERIDGE-TAYLOR, Samuel
  • Coleridge-Taylor wrote his Nonet in f minor while studying at the Royal College of Music. The first performance took place in 1894 as part of a student concert at RCM.
  • Nonet in f minor consists of four movements and is scored for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and piano. The fullness of Coleridge-Taylor’s writing makes the ensemble of nine players sound like an orchestra.
    1. Allegro energico
    2. Andante con moto
    3. Scherzo: Allegro
    4. Finale: Allegro vivace
  • Nonet in f minor was never published during the composer’s lifetime.1
