Crown Imperial: A Coronation March

Composer: WALTON, Sir William
  • Walton’s Crown Imperial is an orchestral march first performed at the coronation of King George VI in 1937.
    • Fun fact – Walton was commissioned to write a march for the coronation of King Edward VIII; however, following the infamous abdication, Walton’s piece remained in the ceremony for Edward’s brother, George.
    • Crown Imperial has since been performed at several other royal ceremonies, including the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the coronation of Charles III.1.
