  • Written between 1951-52, Symphony No. 4 is the most compact of Wirén’s four symphonies, running under 20 minutes.
    • *Despite being labeled “No. 4,” Symphony No. 4 represents Wirén’s third published symphony (he withdrew the first symphony he wrote as a student).
  • Symphony No. 4 consists of three movements:
    1. Tempo moderato
    2. Molto vivace
    3. Tempo moderato
  • Symphony No. 4 premiered in 1952 on Swedish Radio, conducted by Sten Frykberg.1
