Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488

Composer: MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus
  • Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major was written in 1786 and consists of a traditional 3-movement, fast-slow-fast structure.
    • 1786 was a particularly productive year for Mozart. He not only completed this concerto but also Piano Concerto No. 22, Piano Concerto No. 24, Le Nozze di Figaro, Der Schauspieldirektor, and many other works.
  • One interesting feature of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 is that it incorporated clarinets as part of the orchestra, which wasn’t typical at the time.1
